Could you be a little more specific on this
point? I seem to recall the phrase "equal treatment
before the law", myself. As for actually abridging gays'
civil rights, Eva has already pointed out the fact
that refusal to repeal the sodomy law - which these
days is mainly used as a club to beat the GLBT folk
with - is a bipartisan problem, not solely the work
of the Republicans.

I think this qualifies as a sick joke. Which
social spending would this be, the millions spent by
the MCDA on destroying affordable housing in the 5th
and 6th Ward? All the money wasted on a city school
system that on average fails to graduate over half
its high school students, and does even worse by
black, Ojibwe and other minority students? Or are we
talking about a welfare system that ruined at least
three generations of the urban poor?
Most of the social spending you characterize as
"beneficial to the black community" may have done some
good for what W.E.B duBois so lovingly referred to as
"the talented tenth", but didn't do anything positive,
by and large, for the other 90% of black America.

Maybe you ought to ask a few of us Republican
minorities whether we're comfortable in our party
or not before you go making assumptions. My mother
may be an Ortega from Santa Fe, but my political
home has been the Republican party since I moved
here in 1983.
