For the few of us who live in Northeast...

The Minneapolis Planning Commission will be holding a
public hearing on the Lowry Avenue Corridor Plan on
June 17, 2002 (next Monday) at 4:30pm in room 317 at
City Hall. I know I heard about the plan from this
list and someone from Holland who pointed out the
obvious flaws that were in the original design. May be
advantageous to point them out to these folks.

Keith adds; Lowry Ave. crosses the River and courses through the Northside
on a straight shot to our western City limits. Currently, the Avenue has many
crime problems, poverty issues and boarded buildings. Our County
Commissioner, Mark Stenglein, is very motivated toward redesigning and
beautifying this Corridor. A very good goal. A goal to which he has enlisted
his Mpls. counterparts.

However, it is undeniable that West Broadway, a near, adjacent
Corridor/Avenue, is the main thoroughfare of the Whole Northwest Quadrant of
our fair City. And as County Road 81, a much more important route for the
Northwest Suburban Quadrant as well.

I will be candid and tell all. I never hear the delight when Mark speaks
and deals in West Broadway that I do when he speaks and deals Lowry Avenue.
West Broadway, in Mpls., is a complicated, confounding, bleak, and too often
ignored corridor. And the "Avenue with the Most Potential" in the whole City.

We need to hear our County Commissioner speak with delight of the prospects
for our Avenue, West Broadway, even though improvement there will be more
complicated and expensive then "more minor" Lowry Av. We also need to hear
from RT for the same reasons. We must hear from them, loudly and stridently,
on behalf of West Broadway improvement.

Because of the huge economic awakening on the Northside, this avenue is
positioned to be the defining street of Northside commerce. Where are the
Cheerleaders for our
oft-ignored MPA (Most-Potential Avenue) West Broadway?
