City of Minneapolis to hold first in series of 
Community Summits on diversity issues

WHAT:   A COMMUNITY SUMMIT: SPEAK OUT, BE HEARD, TAKE ACTION!
Focus on issues concerning people of African descent

WHEN:   5 - 8 p.m., June 27, 2002
 
MORE:   The first in a series of community summits will focus on issues
concerning people of African descent. A panel of experts including Dr.
Daniel Abebe; Ta-coumba Aiken, Saint Paul muralist; Dr. Mary K. Boyd; Dr.
Bravada Garrett-Akinsanya, President, MN Chapter of Black Psychologists;
Mohamad Jibrell, Office of the Mayor-Policy Aide; and Louis King, President,
Summit Academy OIC will lead discussion on issues surrounding
community/police relations, jobs and employment opportunities, community
building/action, health, economic development, and youth issues.  Citizens
will discuss these topics in small group sessions.

                                Vanne Owens-Hayes, Minneapolis Civil Rights
director will introduce the summit and Mayor R. T. Rybak will receive the
recommendations and offer closing remarks.

                                The summit is free and open to the public
and a light meal will be served. Space is limited. Please call Lolita Moreno
