No, I think not. Besides our not rising to the bait
allows us to stay on the Mpls Issues Forum, keeps
small children and the emotionally fragile from
viewing naughty words and makes for a much happier

Now, on to a different topic that I've been mulling
over since watching the InterGovernmental Relations
Committee of the Mpls City Council on cable last week.
How involved should the City Council be in commenting
on issues that are before other governmental bodies?
For example: one of the issues before that meeting
was a resolution of support for including GLBT folk in
the Federal Hate Crimes statutes. Lisa Goodman,
probably the most gay friendly member of the city
council, outside of Benson, Lilligren and Schiff
obviously, raised objections to the council supporting
or opposing federal and state issues not in the
purvue of the city council. I remember that she took a
similar position with regard to a resolution sponsored
by CM Zerby during the session to raise the state
sales tax on cigarettes. I was very happy that she and
a couple others objected to the city sticking its nose
into that debate (yes, I smoke) and was suprised and
kinda gratified that her position on these kind of
resolutions is consistent. (By the way, I think she
either abstained from the hate crimes vote or decided
to finally support it). I'm wondering what others
think of her position.
