Congratulations and thank you to all who planned, organized and supported this summit, the Dept of Civil Rights folks, city council members, and Mayor Rybak.
The evening began with a panel members addressing topics to be discussed further in break-out sessions: Community/Police relations, Economic Development/Job Creation, Community Building/Action-Artistic Perspective, Health Issues and Youth Issues. Then, off to the smaller sessions. I attended the Youth Issues session. The energy was high and there was no shortage of ideas (and I got some good contacts for the diversity work I do in the Anoka-Hennepin schools). The only problem was the lack of time. I was pleased that the charge of people in the small sessions was to come up with a few key recommendations to bring to the mayor. It wrapped things up on a positive note. I look forward to the other summits planned and then in seeing the next steps in this process. This was a great step in making Minneapolis more inclusive. Again, thanks to all for their hard work in making this happen.
