The I35W Mitigation Task Force/Committee is just that--a committee
designing ways to mitigate the impact 35W has made in all our lives. I
doubt there is anything to be done when MnDOT decides (or has decided)
that it will widen 35W. They have a tendency to work in a vacuum of
their own creation. True, the committee has looked at fly-over raamps,
weaving, bus lanes, whatever else, but the point of the committee is to
mitigate the damage already done and the damage expected.
If the city does re-open Nicollet then they will no doubt widen Lake St.
and whatever else they think is necessary to make the intersection
functional under that configuration. Opening the street will create
different traffic patterns.
