Just so there is no confusion, the proposed widening of Lake Street is due to the Freeway Access Project, not the re-opening of Nicollet, though both are being planned right now. The widening of Lake St is not required in some versions of the Access Project, but is required in others depending on the configuration of the ramps.
I think the points that Barb Lickness made are very important, and the current scope of the Access project has rendered it less valuable in total, in my opinion - there are some useful aspects, and some that need to be done away with, like widening Lake. I don't have specific measurements, but I wonder how the proposed width of Lake compares to the width of the freeway itself - is the next stage in transportation planning to make freeways out of our commercial corridors, the way many suburbs build commercial areas along freeways?
