Regarding the recent mention of Xcel/Excel Energy on this list:

Good article on local/national nuclear waste management issues and Xcel's
Prairie Island and Monticello plants in recent Business Journal--
http://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/stories/2002/07/01/focus1.html

The Minneapolis connection is twofold:
1) a very significant portion of Xcel's power production capacity in MN is
nuclear-based, and the waste storage issue will very likely impact electric
rates locally (by varying amounts depending upon which scenarios ultimately
play out), right here in Minneapolis, and
2) Minneapolis is directly downstream from the Monticello nuclear facility
and our potable water supply is the Mississippi River.
Could these issues (in addition to NRG and a recession) also be influencing
Xcel debt/equity valuations?

All this as we celebrate Independence Day-02, with military air surveillance
overhead. Also of interest:

Maybe see you at Boom Island Park later today:

Enjoy the great day!!
