I am hoping I can get some help from someone on the list. Situation: Without going into a very long story, my 12 year old son was able to purchase fireworks at the corner store by my house WITHOUT my permission.
Needless to say I was very upset. Yes, with my son but even more so with the corner store. Part of the consequences I applied to my son for buying these fireworks without my permission is that I drove him to about 10 different stores from big to small to attempt to purchase fireworks to see how widespread the non-compliance problem was. The good news is that not one of the other stores allowed him to buy fireworks. However, I am bound and determined to hold the corner store accountable for selling these fireworks to underage children. My son was not the only person under 18 the store sold them to. I have trying since last Wednesday to find out just what jurisdiction and agency is responsible for enforcing the new fireworks laws which if I am correct carries a $3,000 fine for selling to anyone under 18. Trouble is no one seems to know who is responsible. I called the police and was steered to licensing. Licensing steered me to the State Attorney Generals office who tried to tell me that I would have to take the store to court. YOU MUST BE KIDDING! Enforcing the fireworks law most surely cannot be up to the citizens themselves. That would be ridiculous. So.....does someone out there know who is responsible to enforce this law?
