The Minneapolis Lakes listed that are in the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District are: Lake of the Isles, Powderhorn, Diamond, Hiawatha, and Nokomis. Excess nutrients means phosphorus and there has been an aggressive campaign underway for some time to reduce the amount of phosphorus going to the lakes. Citizens can help by reducing leaves and grass clippings in the streets and gutters, along with using the now required no phosphorus fertilizer. Water quality project have been completed recently for Diamond and Powderhorn. Nokomis and Hiawatha are the only lakes with swimming beaches and measures have been underway in the past year by the Blue Water Partnership (City of Mpls, MCWD, and MPRB) to improve water quality in those lakes. Unfortunately, because Lake Hiawatha gets new water via the creek an average of 19 times each year fixing problems there are a bit more difficult. We can all help Lake Hiawatha by improving water quality upstream in Minnehaha Creek. That means homeowners all the way to Lake Minnetonka will need to be educated about better lawn care practices. We list water quality trends and info on a number of our lakes on our web site: http://minnehahacreek.org/f-Water_quality.htm Pam Blixt Nokomis East and Minnehaha Creek Watershed District Board _______________________________________ Minneapolis Issues Forum - A Civil City Civic Discussion - Mn E-Democracy Post messages to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe, Unsubscribe, Digest option, and more: http://e-democracy.org/mpls
