I hate to rain on peoples' imaginary parades, but Sharon Sayles Belton and her two closest allies on the city council were unceremoniously drummed out of office less than a year ago, a fairly compelling repudiation of her (at least recent) performance. It's not really the time to be talking boulevards, not when deservedly controversial projects such as Block E and Holman aren't fully erected and the city is facing a budget hangover from all the "development and growth" SSB led over the past decade.
If a public servant does indeed accomplish things that stand the test of time, they will be remembered, cherished and eventually honored--that's why it is a good idea to wait until someone's legacy has been pretty well established before naming things after them.
With all due respect to SSB, even a charitable review of her legacy and accomplishments finds that it does not measure up to those of Nellie Stone Johnson, to use an example that might satisfy Brandon's gender preference.
