It has been a long, hot summer;otherwise, why
would I ever be posting about earwigs? From my backyard, the house
wrens are the earwigs natural predator. Evidently, young and
old wrens find them to be succulent and delicious since they seem to
be the insect most frequently fed and eaten (aside from the mealy worms I
unabashedly purchase with the express purpose of luring the tiny
birds back to Northeast Minneapolis each year. This is one way
of insuring we get some kind of new housing in our
neighborhood!)
