Jim Jacobsen is right. Hiawatha light rail will be an attractive choice for people who want a fast, convenient commute to downtown Minneapolis. No hassles with road rage, plugging meters or getting parking tickets.
Conor Donnely asked about Hiawatha ridership and the number of passengers who previously drove autos. Projected ridership is 19,600 per day when the line opens for partial service from Nicollet Mall to Fort Snelling in late 2003. The line will attract 1,000 daily new riders (riders who previously drove autos). That's about 300,000 new rides each year. The balance of the ridership would be from existing transit riders switching or transferring to the new LRT line. Ridership forecasts also project how riders will get to the station: Walk to station = 12,925 Ride bus to station = 5,475 Drive auto to station (includes pick up and drop off) = 1,200 Try these links for more info on Hiawatha LRT: http://www.dot.state.mn.us/metro/lrt/ http://www.metrocouncil.org/transportation/lrt/lrt.htm Jennifer Lovaasen Outreach Coordinator Metropolitan Council _______________________________________ Minneapolis Issues Forum - A Civil City Civic Discussion - Mn E-Democracy Post messages to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe, Unsubscribe, Digest option, and more: http://e-democracy.org/mpls
