While it is true that the mayor has done a good job of presenting his side of this issue, I believe the Park Board has several strong reasons to make this decision beyond the issue of Park Board independence that save the city signifcant funds in the long run while simultaneously enabling the park board to improve it's operations and programs to the public. I have confidence that we will hear more about this here on this list and hope the Park Board members are able to articulate their reasonings as well as Mayor Rybak presented his.
Certainly this issue is not as black and white from a financial perspective as the rhetoric on this list would imply and I would argue that despite the cogent argument presented by the Mayor, that there are equally compelling reasons from the point of view of the interests of taxpayers as to why now is exactly the time the park board ought to do this particular project. I'll leave the articulation of the points to members of the Park Board who I am sure are capable of making those points themselves.
