In response to Carol Becker. Bike lanes downtown may reduce the number of cars that can use that particular street, but you miss the point that many many more bicyclists can traverse the same street than the number of cars lost. At some point soon we are going to reach the maximum capacity of automobile traffic that downtown Minneapolis can handle, if for no other reason than there will be no place to park. Light rail, bicycling and other alterative modes of transportation need to go to the head of the list of priorities for our Public Works Department right now. Unfortunately the commentary piece in the Star-Tribune this morning points out where this priority now stands. You cannot continue to think that the success of our downtown depends on how many people can drive to the front door of Marshall Fields. Richard Anderson Loring Park
