Has anyone asked for the police report on this crash? Knowing that
intersection as well as I do, (I lived on 35th and Grand for 8 years) there
are a lot of crashes there because some people run the lights because they
don't see them. Many people use 35th and 36th street who aren't from the
area to get too and from the lakes and they don't see those lights and run
them because they aren't paying close enough attention. My neighbors lived
on the corner and had this great front porch on 35th and Grand. On weekend
afternoons we would notice at least a couple cars an hour run that light by
shear ignorance, at night they would notice it but during the day it
happened quite often.

I guess I've seen too many Chicken Little posts from Ken talking about the
sky falling about traffic issues when this very well could be a case of
someone not paying close enough attention. By the way, if the access
project which Ken loves to rail about becomes a reality many of those cars
will be passing on 38th and Grand which is a commercial node on all 4
corners where drivers expect to see a traffic light. (oh, the irony)

I don't mean to diminish the problem we have with drivers running red
lights, it's a huge problem. We also have a huge problem with drivers not
paying attention, speeding, and not watching for pedestrians and bikers. I
would like to see the city, county, state, and federal gov'ts work harder at
public awareness about these issues, I'm sure there are dozens of clever ad
guys with not as much to do nowadays who could come up with some great
public information campaigns to lampoon this behavior and make everyone more
safety conscious.
