I have read the traffic posts with great interest and decided I needed
to comment. I was recently in one of those terrible car crashes -- not
at 35Th and Grand, but at 5th Ave So and 7th St in downtown Mpls. A red
and white cab driver ran a red light and broadsided by car right into
the passanger side where by 15 year old daughter was sitting. We both
were injuried. My daughter was temporary trapped in the car -- with the
help of the fire department she was able to get out of the car. The
police, fire and paramedics did an excellent job at that scene.
However, the cab company has been non responsive. After an accident of
this nature, I am amazed at the ill treatment by insurance companies and
how they seem protected.

Cab companies and drivers are licensed by the City of Minneapolis to
operate in Minneapolis. Part of a campaign for safer driving certainly
needs to include them. At what point does a cab driver loose his
license to operate in Mpls? How many red lights do they need to run?
How many people do they need to injure?

I realise in the scope of problems facing this city, safe driving and
cabs may not be the most important issue. However, right now it has
deeply affected my quality of life in this fair city.
