Regarding stolen Wellstone signs: I got a
replacement today from 5th District DFL campaign
HQ at 2722 University Ave near Prospect Park. On
the accompanying sheet it says if your sign is
stolen or damaged, call David at 612.623.0424.
They say the thefts are statewide. But they do
have signs at 5th district HQ.

Emilie Quast: the police from the 2nd precinct
were testing the bumps with an SUV, which, of
course, had no trouble at all.

A good argument against speed bumps. They wont
affect all the SUVs at all. My idea for traffic
calming would be to close off all but one lane
with barriers and road work signs. I try to
avoid streets like that.

By the way, my brother-in-law, a traffic light
engineer for decades at MNDOT has a sadistic,
vicious idea for handling red-light runners that
I positively LOVE! Anyone who has parked in a
lot on the east coast knows those tire-puncture
devices they use to prevent people from leaving
without paying. My BIL says put those in
dangerous intersections coordinated with traffic
lights. Have them start raising at the light is
sitting on yellow. After a few cars destroy a
couple hundred bucks worth of tires, people will
start slowing as soon as they see a yellow.

Tim Bonham: And pedestrian-only streets? I
thought we had them already -- they're called
sidewalks

Hey, heres an idea. How about converting some
sidewalks to bike only and then leave others as
no bike.

Robert Schmid: There are 323,637 native born US
citizens in Minneapolis. Native born US citizens
- just like the terrorists who blew up the
Oklahoma City Federal Building.

Touche! Mr. Schmid. We tend to forget our own
ability to hatch terrorists like Tim McVeigh and
Jon Salvi (who gunned down receptionists in
Massachussetts birth-control clinics)

Pioneer Press:
New brokerages sold on area
BY TIM HUBER
Pioneer Press

There's a gold rush of sorts developing in the
Twin Cities.
A handful of large securities firms from around
the country are quietly trying to break into a
local market that has long been dominated by
homegrown firms. While it's hardly unusual for
firms from New York, Chicago or even Milwaukee to
set up shop in the Twin Cities, they typically
limit their efforts to recruiting retail
brokers.

This raises a question about Victoria Heller.
This story is obvious endorsement of what is
being done here. Some people seem capable of
conducting their business. So is your conduct of
your business in Minneapolis, which causes you so
much rancor, like some sort of bad marriage
youre unwilling to leave behind? Why arent you
in business in a city you actually respect? Are
there no real opportunities better than in
Minneapolis. Please tell me because I want to
know.

Brandon Lacy Campos: Instead we have a Council
member who signed a confession saying that he
accepted illegal plumbing work and then proceeded
to use his office to support the union that
provided the plumbing work.

What is wrong with using any office to support a
union? My point being there is no inherent harm
in supporting unions. Is that Brandons intent,
to paint union-support as inherently criminal?

Neal Levine: Assuming my first paragraph is
accurate, I think it's a little disingenuous to
confuse due process with trying to get yourself
off through legal loopholes when you knowingly
betrayed the publics trust, abused your power and
admitted you did it. Elected officials must be
held to a higher standard. Period.

Uh, real nice, Neal. But where pray tell HAVE
they been held to that standard? I have a little
PROBLEM with the implication that this is a
standard to which we are holding Biernat. No,
no, the standard is MUCH lower, and most people I
know have voted for mostly people who accept that
lower standard. For example, something like 48
million voters accepted it with Bush. He has a
history of addiction and law-breaking. Plus he
is one of those corporate evil-doers. Yet weve
enjoyed a year of hearing about 80 or 90
percent of the voters considering him
admirable. Now, you tell me in what way he is
superior to Joe Biernat. I cant wait to hear.
