-----Original Message----- From: Pamela Taylor While I can understand Jim's point about the handicapped and housebound constituents, that is still no reason to cave in on the Twins/Stadium issue. If there were no Twins, these people would find something else to enjoy. Their lives do not depend on the Twins, they are simply just one more available thing. They are having a run of good luck right now. What about when they were not?
[TB] I could use that argument on a number of things that money is spent on. How about "If there were no [Library], these people would find something else to enjoy. Their lives do not depend on the [Library], they are simply just one more available thing. ? Rep. Kahn, even though some of her ideas are rather flaky, has some good points about community ownership that should be explored. There is even a working model only 250 miles away with the Green Bay football team which has been community owned for many years. Nobody is forced to contribute. A community asset stays with no public dollars being spent. In Green Bay the stadium is owned by the team with no public bailout, ala Target Center where the Legislature bailed it out then turned around and then torpedoed the bailout by kicking in even more money to build a competing building in St. Paul. This fight, rivalry, whatever between Minneapolis and St. Paul is not benefiting anyone. Neither is Minneapolis vs. The 'Burbs. There is way to much expensive duplication. What is St. Paul doing differently that they can avoid an increase in property taxes again bringing their string of years without an increase to what? 9 years? What do they do differently than Minneapolis? Why doesn't the Minneapolis Mayor and City Council listen to the warnings of Board of Estimate Chair (Vice Chair?) Wallace Swan about the City's financial condition? Terrell Brown Loring Park terrell at terrellbrown dot org __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
