My grandfather bought our family home in 'Nordeast' Mpls in 1902.  My father and 3 of his six siblings went to Edison High in 'Nordeast" Mpls.  the other 2 went to old East High.  My brother and I went to Lowry, then NE Jr and graduated from Edison, all in 'Nordeast" Mpls.  In 1982. I deserted 'Nordeast' and bought a home in North Mpls (the prices were too high for me in "Nordeast" ).  My mother and brother still live in the family home.  Dad's ashes are there, too.  Unless the offended parties have a longer pedigree in 'Nordeast", I can guarantee you that there is nothing derogatory about the term.
