City Hall to host 4th annual Spooktacular event on Oct. 25
For the fourth year, Minneapolis City Hall and Courthouse will transform itself into a haunted wonderland on Friday, October 25, 2002 between 5 - 8 p.m. Festivities will include spooky tours by guides in period costumes, a costume contest with prizes, holiday games, trick-or-treating and much more! Guides in period costumes will escort kids of all ages on a spooky and educational tour of the historic building. Wander along the "haunted halls," meeting ghosts and goblins, enjoying magic shows and holiday/carnival games, and visiting with personalities from the past. Visitors can get pictures taken, have their faces painted, meet the canine and equine staff of the City's K-9 and horse patrols and their handlers, and even enter a costume contest. Refreshments will be served! This event is free and open to the public.Spooktacular began as a way to build public awareness about free public tours of City Hall. Minneapolis City Hall and Courthouse is an architectural treasure that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. As ghosts and goblins waft by you, Spooktacular tours will highlight Larkin Mead's marble statue of the "Father of the Waters," the beautiful stained glass windows that adorn the Rotunda, the quaint Municipal Library, and a visit to the historically renovated City Council Chamber. Hear the story of Joseph Auld who climbed bell tower to play the bell carillon by candlelight for more than 50 years. And, maybe even catch a glimpse of John Moshick's ghost, the notorious criminal and the only prisoner to be sentenced to death by hanging at the Courthouse gallows in 1898. Minneapolis City Hall and Courthouse is located downtown on 4th Street, between 3rd and 4th Avenues. Enter City Hall on Street. Parking is available at the Haaf Ramp (between 4th and 5th Avenues). Spooktacular is sponsored by the Municipal Building Commission (MBC), which oversees and maintains City Hall facilities. Call the MBC Tour and Event Information Hotline at 612-673-5301 for more details about Spooktacular and regular City Hall tours or visit the MBC Web site at www.municipalbuildingcommission.org.
