Robert Schmid:In other words, addicts would get
medical assistance instead of jail time. There
is, of course, a spectrum of scenarios between
legalization and de-criminalization that involves
a variety of different approaches to different
questions e.g.;

JM: I'd be happy to see as much police time given
to drugs as is given to smoking. There is about
as much hope of getting people to give up one as
the other, and smoking is killing far more
people. And I'm betting we'd have a reduction in
Minneapolis murders if the product was not
criminalized.

Victoria Heller:I don't know of any listmembers
who criticize subsidized housing. They
(myself included) are criticizing subsidized
DEVELOPERS. I would happily
give the $32 million to struggling families.

JM: My calculator says at $150,000 apiece, $32
million would pay for 213 affordable houses.
Whoosh! That would be a BIG additon to our
affordable housing stock, wouldn't it?

Now, regarding non-citizens voting, what would be
the arguments AGAINST it? Well, I can see that
on territorial defense, we might not want
foreigners affecting our policy. So maybe they
shouldn't vote for president (the president
doesnt really appropriate money, after all). But
would the same considerations apply with, say,
city council? I could see someone saying no.

Of course, this might be pretty radical to the
world. I doubt you could just go live in France
and vote in THEIR elections.
