Although tragic that those people, including Wellstone, died in that plane crash, I never did or ever will see him as a true fighter for justice.
He voted for the sanctions against Iraq that have killed so many in that nation as a result. He voted for the Patriot Act. He was actively involved in the jargon and flag waving that is leading this country away from rationality and civil liberties.
He voted for the Defense of Marriage Act--as if heterosexuals have to really worry that GLBT people are threatening this privilege.
I see this outpouring of Wellstone as an example of social justice as Minnesota's liberal tradition of takling but now walking what you talk.
I went to the rally against war against Iraq today, not to memorialize Paul Wellstone,, I regeret this event got overshadowed and also that the media tried to protray that everyone who went was a Wellstone supportive. He is no different than the other demos and repubs who essentially serve the rich.
The power of the media is that makes celebrities/politicians such a part of our lives that they it can seem like we have personal relationship with them. This celebrity status is not accorded those who are homeless, poor , starving and dying at the hand so U.S. policey. The media should be doing non stop coverage about these deaths and injustices
