In the candidate fair, I spoke to two judges running against each other, one being Howard Schwartz. His main reason to get on the bench was that he thought the handling of divorces was in need of improvement. I don't know if that is from his own divorce or just a philosophical thing. He said he got INTO law because he was a realtor and was frustrated about how real estate law is handled (really? My few experiences were fairly well-handled). So he seems to have this pattern of career changes due to personal experiences. He was running for a family court position. His opponent was James T. Swenson who I also spoke to and who felt family court was well run.
I did not speak to Julie Delgado O'Neill. She struck me as an activist looking to get into the power structure. That is definitely not WRONG. But I didnt really get what her ISSUES were. Does she seek a better shake for Latinos? Is there an injustice she perceives in the system? Is she one of the people who feels the court system is too soft on offenders? Is she running against Zimmerman as one of the culprits? Or does she just want a public job? ===== Jim Mork Cooper Neighborhood Minneapolis ------------- Paul Wellstone: Best friend Minneapolis ever had in Washington. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
