A friend of mine just pointed out that Peter McLaughlin had made the big time -- that is, CJ's gossip column.....

CJ on Peter McLaughlin.....

Sara Meyer's ex-husband, Hennepin County Commissioner Peter McLaughlin, can forget her vote, judging from the "Ed Felien for County Commissioner" sign in the front yard of the Edmund Boulevard house where they used to live. Meyer sold the house but left behind the sign -- as a memento? I left a message for Meyer, who produces "Midday" for MPR, and received this voice mail: "Hello, this is Sara Meyer returning your call. Yes, I'm the woman who was married to Peter McLaughlin for 18 years. . . . He dragged out the divorce until August. The house was sold in September. And the answer to your question is that I put up the lawn sign. Bye-bye." Now I know that McLaughlin's laughter during our interview was of the nervous variety. His responses were minimal: "She must be supporting Eddie, I don't know. . . . It's not my front yard. . . . Yes, it's my understanding that she sold the house. . . . I am divorced." When told of the amusing -- if it's not happening to you -- story about what got them to divorce court, McLaughlin said, "It's been going around for a while. That is a total fabrication. Frankly, you need to think about the motives of the people." I told McLaughlin I would not repeat the story, but I'm alluding to it so that you readers won't inundate me with you-know-the-story e-mail. "There's not a grain of truth in it," McLaughlin said. "And it's meant to hurt me." Based on the details that Meyer shared, there was a time or two when McLaughlin deeply hurt her.

EY: Now I wonder if this is the same amusing story Mark Stenglein told me about Peter McLaughlin -- and CJ has it just right -- the story is very amusing -- if it's not happening to you.

Congratulations to Peter McLaughlin for making the big time!
