I will also join in the sharing of tax increases.
I purchased my first house in the Spring of 2000 in Minneapolis.
I have seen since the purchase of this property, tax increases each year.
In 2000 the taxes had been 1150 dollars
In 2001 they jumped to 1373
In 2002 they jumped to 1569
In 2003 they are proposed to 1852
And in the same regard a decrease in city services such as street cleaning, tree planting, and the reduction in the number police patrols.
I don't know what to think at this point? But for sure I'm seriously contemplating moving. Hey if I'm going to pay high taxes than at least I would like to get something for the money.

Subject: [Mpls] property taxes(Theft by government)
So I just received my proposed '03 property tax notice from Hennepin
County.
The tote board:
Taxable market value: from $128,400 in '02 to $142,900 in '03, up 11
percent
Total property taxes: $1,764 to $2,081, up 18 percent
County taxes: $502 to $578, up 15 percent
Library taxes: $53 to $58, up 9 percent
Park taxes: $155 to $168, up 8 percent
Remainder of city tax: $447 to $584, up 30 (!) percent
Question 1: is the big city jump the effect of Year 1 of the
8-percent-total-property tax growth plan approved by the council? Is it
also compounded by state property-tax compression putting more of the
burden on homeowners?
Or is there something else driving the big jump?
Join the club David. I just got mine as well, and my property taxes as a whole are
going up 18.6 percent. From just under $1000 to nearly $1100 dollars. Who here gets a 18 percent raise in a year??
I'm starting to think about moving, just because I really can't stand having my money stolen each year. Legally by the city and the county.

Other taxes of note:
School referendum levy: $101 to $229, up 126 percent
Other local school levy: $365 to $305, down 16 percent (I assume this is
continuing state property tax reform)
Total school taxes: $467 to $534, up 14 percent
Question 2: I'm surprised at the big school-referendum jump only because
I thought it kicked in last year. Am I wrong? If not, can someone
explain that big jump?
