For new, and also old members: If your posts are occasionally delayed getting to the list, it may be because your messages aren't in plain text format. Our list server stops posts with other formatting (primarily MIME and HTML, which allows different fonts and colors) because they can more easily transmit viruses.
Those of you who have AOL or MSN - sorry, they force you to send in HTML. The rest of you almost certainly can configure your email program to send posts plain text (more sophisticated programs can be configured to send plain text to specific addresses; if this is the case, set up the address [EMAIL PROTECTED] to go out plain text. Occasionally, plain text email carries MIME formatting - the details aren't important here, just try to turn off any MIME settings if you can. I have to manually forward MIME- and HTML-formatted posts that are blocked. It's a drag, but I do it to protect 900 list members against viruses. It's no fun for you, either, waiting to see your pearls on-line. So anything you can do to make sure you're sending plain text would be appreciated. Finally, thank you to all the members for their kind words and congratulations on Steve's and my City of Minneapolis awards. Being amid all the other volunteers and their great works was a true honor, and Ron was an accurate reporter; I was and am humbled. I love the city and being recognized by others is wonderful. The accomplishments of the other winners deserve proper attention. In the dark fiscal days ahead, their works are a reminder of the great human spirit to give that will keep Minneapolis a fine place to live. You can read about them at: http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/news/20021113minneapolis_award_backgroun d.asp (If the link breaks, there's a hotlink on the city's home page, http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us) I'd like to thank all the members who have turned this concept into a valuable reality; without your wise and passionate thoughts, all the management in the world wouldn't mean much. So thank you to all. Also, thank you to the mayor and council president Ostrow for taking another weeknight away from their families to honor us, and to the city staff, including Vaman Pai, who worked hard to put this together.
