I've been pretty silent as of late. Here's the thing... I'm basically in support of the I-35W redesign as it was presented in the community meetings these past few weeks. I've taken time to review the designs, the proposed mitigation, the improved access both at Lake and 38th, etc, etc.
I know we as neighbors may not agree on this one since each of us is impacted differently. When I try and look a the big picture, including how the freeway should have included access at Lake and 38th back when it was built, and the overall benefits and impacts for all of Central, I have a different opinion than when I look at what it will do my friend's front yards on 2nd Ave. It decreases traffic on 35th & 36th (both heavily residential streets with schools and libraries). It increases traffic on 38th, with more commercial exposure. I've seen the traffic studies estimating how the traffic will move after. I know there is no real measure until it is built and people actually drive it. Over the years of design, I've been grateful to have neighborhood and citizen input on a project which began as a 28th St. ramp for 2 businesses. I do think the mitigation and amenities built into this project are way above and beyond what we might have had if this had been left to MnDot alone. I could go on and on about specifics... I like 6b with Nicollet access and room for future light rail, etc. But the above are the basic reasons I've written my representatives to express my support. -- Kim ____________________________________________________________ Kimberly Goodman Phone: 612-823-4488 3649 Park Avenue Fax: 612-823-3194 Minneapolis, MN 55407 [EMAIL PROTECTED] ____________________________________________________________ _______________________________________ Minneapolis Issues Forum - A City-focused Civic Discussion - Mn E-Democracy Post messages to: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe, Unsubscribe, Digest, and more: http://e-democracy.org/mpls
