>Regarding 3rd Ward election candidates/Valdis: I assume that he must >have moved from being independent into the Republican camp. But I haven't heard >for sure if he is running either way. > I saw Valdis at the Republican convention in 2002. He definitely is Republican. Norm Coleman signs in a yard don't mean someone is Republican -- Norm had alot of Democratic support.
I hope Valdis runs as a Republican -- and states clearly where he disagrees with the state party. If he does run as a Republican he needs to work actively to get some crossover Democratic support. If he runs as a Republican I hope that folks like Patty Awada, Tim Pawlenty and Norm Coleman help him out by having an event for him. That would help to build the Minneapolis Republican party. There are lots of closet republicans in Minneapolis. Have folks thought how much at least one person on the city council being republican -- or one Minneapolis Legislator being republican could help the city's cause with a Republican House and Governor -- and a Senate that is barely Democratic -- and with rural Dems hostile to Minneapolis.
