Fellow list members:
Even if you do not participate in the 2,002 Buy Nothing Day on Friday, November 29, here are some links to find great information about how buy-nothing Holidays can help you, your family, your community, and even the economy.
Here is a link to the Adbusters buy-nothing campaign. This is a great way to resist and protest the consumerism which has "disappeared" the upcoming holidays in a frenzy of hollow over-consumption.

Below is the link to the list of US contacts for events related to Buy Nothing Day. If you scroll down, you can find a number of contacts here in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It looks like Minneapolis itself has about six contact people listed, with names, numbers, and e-mails. Other metro area cities are involved as well.

The local activities include a protest at the great Mall-o.
There are also links to Adbusters, The Center for a New American Dream, Enough! and to sites about finding Holiday joy rather than the over-consumerist anesthetizing which has become our biggest national addiction and religion.
Check it, and participate in the events as you feel led and are able.
Even if you do not feel a need to participate in Buy Nothing Day, there are many good things to learn from these folks.
Increasingly, religious groups of all sorts are joining in this celebration of spiritual engagement in life and public discourse.
