A very astute observation by Mary Belfry here.

Mary: WE'RE WORKING ON IT AS WE SPEAK! We (Green Party activists) are working on getting balance back in Minneapolis (and across the state) by shaking the power structure and putting forth candidates who are not part of the political status quo; Dem or Repub.

I was just mentioning this to someone earlier: these questionable "ethical faux pas" are not endemic to one particular party. Because this is Minneapolis, we are seeing them in the DFL. If it were Houston, we'd be seeing it in the GOP. Same in New York, Chicago, Tupelo, or New Orleans. Where there is an imbalance of power and the 'monied interests' have a disproportionate say in government whether at the local, state, or national level, THERE is the problem. It is not specifically the DFLers or the repubs, it is the most insidious party of them all: the INCUMBENT party.

We need electoral reform both locally and nationally to break the stranglehold that is choking out democracy.

It is amazing to me that the people who have been posting their reactions to the article about Andrew focus on the language versus the issue. I hear more excuses that because the Democrats have been in power in the city for such a long time the republicans are off the hook!? This is just more evidence that the DFL party is out of touch with reality and would rather blame and deflect everything onto others then look in the mirror. Maybe it is time for the city to get back to a two party system where there is balance. Is that possible?
