Perhaps Southside Pride could involve itself in
such an effort. Specifically, community members
shouldn't place their lives at risk. But making
911 calls alone shouldnt be risky. Testifying in
a trial will be harder due to the fear of being
targeted, but if police figure out where activity
takes place, one would think they could plant
their own witnesses.

Mel's reply
Residents making a call from a large apartment building can also
be risky....Recap, a division of the Mpls. Police Dept. keeps track of
the number of calls made from or about an address.... Too many calls
and the owner gets a letter to reduce the need for police services.
THIS IS GOVERNMENT'S WAY OF SHIFTING
THE RESPONSIBILITY OF CONTROLLING
CRIME FROM THE PUBLIC
SECTOR TO THE PRIVATE SECTOR.
Their letter also threatens you with the loss of your rental license....Thus
your livelihood....Examples of calls listed are medical emergencies,
traffic stops for tail lights out, residents who had their auto stolen
or broken into etc....In others words a 50 unit residence is only allowed
the same number of calls allowed a single family residence or 1/50th the
service allowed to an single family residence.
I remember reading that CCP SAFE Officers were out warning
residents in the southwest Mpls. area of crimes occurring near their homes
and they where told to stop the warnings, they could only deliver good news.
DOES THIS MEAN THEIR JOB IS PR???
Former Police Chief Bouza said CCP Safe was a boondoggle and they
should get back to doing real Police work by answering 911 calls.
Just recently I chased and caught a person who I had witnessed stealing
tools from a vehicle in my parking lot....I managed to call 911 and state that
I was holding an thief....In the meantime 2 large individuals arrived and
threatened to mess me up....About 40 minutes later a squad arrives
and states that they are very sorry but that they were backed up with
calls....Rank and file Police are what our neighborhoods are in
need of....Is it unreasonable to expect police staffing large enough
to at least answer calls for help that are in progress.
HOW IS IT POSSIBLE THAT I CAN GET A CAB
FASTER THAN THE POLICE???
MY SUGGESTION
If 1/2 of all 900 Police Officers were available to answer 911 calls
50% of their on duty time...Mpls. could become a good place to live.
IS THIS TO MUCH TO ASK???
