Jim, I was wondering if you had any advice for what a person from a "non"-impacted neighborhood can do to help neighborhoods like Phillips, Ventura Village, Jordan, etc., receive equal and fair treatment from the city.
I don't have a lot of free time for the next couple months, but I believe that we need to raise the floor in Minneapolis, and if I can add a voice or a body in an effective way, I would like to do so. Folks don't have to be rich, but they've got to be able to get to school and work safely and they've got to be able to be at home or in their yards without fear or harrasment. The situation as described by you and others on this list is intolerable. I truly can't imagine living in an area where shots are fired regularly and aggressive drug dealers dominate the streets. It sounds like the three biggest issues are: * Concentration of supportive housing (and assisted?) * Completely inadequate Police response and coverage. * Unfair and inadequate sentancing. - Jason Goray (Sheridan, NE) (Note: I've got nothing against people who want to buy drugs, I just wish they could do so at Walgreens and Snyders. One thing I have been doing is advising those of my friends who use to think about where their stuff is coming from - if they're going to support somone who is dealing, they should at least support someone doing it in a benign way and ideally being supplied by a relatively local producer.) __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
