I spend alot of time lurking on on this sight. I think that the wave of the future will be the merging of cities. A recent case is in Des Moines, Iowa. They are planning to merge the city and county. I think we need to consider doing that with Minneapolis and the first level of suburbs. Just my thoughts on the matter.

I concur with the benefits of merging our disparite
municipal services.  I'd go one step better and merge
municipalities themselves.  I think Montreal recently
completed this step.  Sadly, this metro is far too
parochial to ever actually do something like this.
The convention and tourism and business chambers can't
even speak with one voice.  Think of the legislative
pull of a large, super city.  We could name it
Minnehaha or Pigs Eyeopolis.  Perhaps this is what
happens after spending too much time playing Sim City
and I really just need to stop dreaming.
