I concur with the benefits of merging our disparite municipal services. I'd go one step better and merge municipalities themselves. I think Montreal recently completed this step. Sadly, this metro is far too parochial to ever actually do something like this. The convention and tourism and business chambers can't even speak with one voice. Think of the legislative pull of a large, super city. We could name it Minnehaha or Pigs Eyeopolis. Perhaps this is what happens after spending too much time playing Sim City and I really just need to stop dreaming.
