The Mayor and city council have published Draft Goals for Public Input on the city's Web site: http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/results-oriented-minneapolis/
They will accept public comment until January 1, 2003.
I note that the second-to-last goal, "Promote public, community and private partnerships to address disparities and to support strong, healthy families and communities" includes the following expectation: "we will not provide direct health and social services."
This statement is of some concern considering the city is currently responsible for six school-based clinics in the high schools. These clinics provide more than 10,000 student visits a year for things as mundane as sports physicals and as serious as mental health counseling. They are also a delivery point for immunization services, reproductive health care, and referrals to community resources on housing and health insurance.
Have others received any notice of these Draft Goals for Public Input? Have others read them? Are there other items that warrant discussion?
