Thanks Tom- it's bad enough that we only have a couple candidates from the neglected Northside precincts in the 3rd. Now apparently we have carpetbaggers entering the race that don't even live in the ward! If these folks entered the race by geopolitical mistake they can gracefully withdraw and all will be forgiven. If they did so with full knowledge they should still withdraw, and we'll discuss their "political rehabilitation" in the next election cycle if not later.

I believe we have but two declared candidates from the Northside in this race- Vannessa Freeman and Shane Price. Vannessa will probably be out if the tiny DFL convention manages an endorsement (which won't be taken too seriously). Vannessa has agreed to abide by the endorsement, so those circumstances will put her out of the race. Shane Price has a lot of DFL as well as Green support on the Northside and will probably survive the primary. The DFL candidate will probably win the general election, provided that DFLer hasn't suddenly moved into the district and doesn't play to bigoted seniors...

I am amazed at the blatant political opportunism that is currently being
displayed in the 3rd Ward council race.

As of yesterday at 5:00 PM 11 folks that have filed to run for the 3rd Ward
city council seat. 5 of them have not listed their address. Of them Margo
Ashmore, Dave Ramstad and Keri Dziedzic (who has not yet filed but has
already pulled an ad in the Northeaster saying she is running) all live
outside the boundaries of the 3rd ward. That means that they will need to
move into the ward if any of them do make it through the Dec 30th primary.
I am glad to see that the availability of housing has finally become an issue
to NE politicians.
