Lynell Mikkelson seemed to read into a number of items that we never mentioned regarding the Parkboard. As employers that provide paid health insurance to employees we certainly have not been advocating to take away benefits. That seems to have come from Mikkelson. What we are concerned about is the idea that the parks do need to be maintained and kept up to the standards that our current tax structure pays for not purchasing, remodeling and moving into new headquarters. If any of us lost a job or had serious cutbacks would we decide at that point in time to build a new home? I doubt it. This is the time to tighten the belt - not get an expander. Even the City Council voted down the idea of the Park Board moving at this time. We have no problem with a foundation but it should be run outside of a government agency. Take a look at what New York City did with a Conservency. It is successful because it is run separately. Our park system far exceeds NYC and there are people interested but the Park Board refuses to let anyone in to their exclusive group. When John and I have gone to public meetings we have had bothe elected officials and staff ask us what we were doing at the meeting. The last time we attended we simply replied that we were interested in how they were spending "our" money.
