While I understand that your point in the statement below is that gang violence is an incredibly serious issue on the Northside (no question), I want to take this opportunity to let others know that the Northside arts community extends beyond graffiti.
As Margo Ashmore mentioned (and helped found), we do have an arts group here called The Northside Arts Collective. We are currently planning a summer event featuring Northside visual and performance artists. I would like to invite any/all list members to help us organize. We meet at Homewood Studios (homewoodstudios.com) -- a wonderful Northside arts institution. If interested, please email [EMAIL PROTECTED] Finally, I must say that I am thankful to Margo Ashmore who gave me a tour of ALL north neighborhoods when I bought my house, introduced me to some Northside residents, encouraged me to become involved in my neighborhood, and helped me find the arts community here. I would be willing to guess that she has spent more time on this side of the river than any of the other Northeasters running for 3rd ward. Kudos to Margo and Vanessa and others for taking the time to post to this list. Thanks, M Dean, Cleveland << Yes, we do have "artists" here on the Northside. They're favorite media seems to be aerosol spray paint and they prefer public exhibitions of their work. There is actually a whole code to their work, as they try to communicate a message. That message is usually something like "get off our turf or we'll kill you". >> _______________________________________ Minneapolis Issues Forum - A City-focused Civic Discussion - Mn E-Democracy Post messages to: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe, Unsubscribe, Digest, and more: http://e-democracy.org/mpls
