Steve Sumner wrote, in part: >Second, Republicans head up the "freedom of thought" club. Third, "the few remaining voters who exercise their franchise are sheep to be herded". There was a lot in that "few" that voted with the herd in the last election...it's called a majority. ===== [KB] Assuming his third point is about Republicans, none was elected in Minneapolis. It's probably true, however, that a majority of the votes cast in Minneapolis went to DFLers.
If Mr. Sumner intended to comment about statewide races, only DFLer Mike Hatch received a majority of the votes (54.64%). Awada, Kiffmeyer, Pawlenty, and Coleman* each received less than 50% of the votes, only a plurality, meaning a majority of votes were against them (for other candidates). Just about the same result as in 1998, when _all_ the races were won with a minority of the votes. -- Ken Bearman, King Field, 11-1 * Awada: 44.63% Kiffmeyer: 47.56% Pawlenty: 44.37% Coleman: 49.53% Source = http://electionresults.sos.state.mn.us/ElecRslts.asp?M=S&Races=allstate _______________________________________ Minneapolis Issues Forum - A City-focused Civic Discussion - Mn E-Democracy Post messages to: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe, Unsubscribe, Digest, and more: http://e-democracy.org/mpls
