Okay, okay, I wasn't going to jump into this discussion, but I feel compelled to put my two cents in.  I love downtown. I have been downtown three times in the past week.  One time my two daughters and I hopped on the bus and went to get a doll at Target.  My kids love the bus. We were astounded by the shopping cart escalator. Surely that is a tourist attraction? We got the doll, hopped back on the bus and went home.  Total time: one hour, total cost: $1.75.  Second visit we parked in the Marshall Field's ramp, went to lunch with Grandma in the skyroom at Marshall Fields, saw Paddington, which we all enjoyed, got a ginger bread boy, oohed and ahhed over the Christmas trees on 5th floor, and went home.  It cost $6.75 to park, but I am willing to pay that once a year and I don't think we could go to see a little show for that price anywhere.  Third time, we went at night, bought some Hanukkah candy at 90% off, some little girl trinkets, got free parking, even though we hadn't spent $20.00 and went home.  I love downtown.  I love looking at the department store windows.  I love the huge menorah and the huge Christmas tree on Block E, I love the Holidazzle parade.  I love the Farmer's market in the summer.  I love  the skyways, I love being able to walk outside and go from store to store.  So I guess at least one person in Minneapolis will continue to go down there.
