(dennisplante)To me, what IS sad about the endorsement convention - while taking a break outside between the 1st and 2nd ballots, I overheard to delegates commenting on the fact that they were turned-off by Don's suit and that he had brought his children with him. It was somewhat unfortunate that his wife couldn't attend (she was out of town on business) and therefore couldn't watch the kids while Don attended
the convention. Otherwise, we probably would have collected two more
votes (his suit wasn't a deal-breaker)

(VF) There is a process, and that process is called "Getting involved."
If there were things you over heard at the convention, I am sorry. But the way to go about it is either to be a delegate or get people involved into the process. It's pretty easy to do.
I think it is really sad when endorsements to go the way supporters want it to go then there is a problem, or the candidates is friends with the delegate, or some other excuse. But, if an endorsement
is won, then oh my!, the delegates are the best friends.

(dennisplante) Just a thought - has anyone bothered to ask any of the other candidates (other than Don) whether or not they are committed to
running for reelection in 2005? Or for that matter, can anyone tell
me with a fair amount of certainty, of ANY incumbent local politician
that has announced their candidacy for the 2005 election??

(VF) Yes, I have asked the candidates, the one's I was interested in, may I suggest that you also do the same....They were completely forthcoming

(dennisplante)The question needs to be asked - should we allow 72 (delegates)individuals have our voice for the next 3 years? Another question (as long as we're talking about living inside the ward) - how many of the (DFL) delegates actually live in the 3rd ward?

(VF) As a candidate, I had the chance to call all the delegates on the
list. Yes, their numbers came with addresses as well. I can say that all the delegates that I called do live in the third ward. Didn't Don get the list? it was available to all that asked.

(JP) Well, I have the little 8 1/2 x 11 yellow sheet of paper from Olin he was presenting at the Convention and also have yet to see his platform either on that or on the list either.

(VF) I guess getting a small piece of paper is a lot better than, getting a red blur of the article in the Newspaper, or nothing at all..

(JP)Races should be fought and won honorably, especially if you're
going to claim to have the best candidate.

(VF) I agree, but why is it that everything you write about Olin is about somebody throwing or hosting a party, or why is it that every time you get, you try and smear him and his wife. Do you think that is honorably.

(JP)Finally, again I have to take issue with you're analysis of the 3rd ward convention. I don't know how Olin can be perceived as the underdog when Mike Erlandson is hosting fundraisers for him and his wife is chair of the Congressional District. He led on every ballot, but not because he "united the disparate voices" but because as often happens, people get tired, they want to leave or they don't like the opposing
candidate.

(VF) Then where the honor in the above statement??? Especially if you think your candidate is all that and is the best voice for the community, why not let the voters decide...your words not mine.
Also, maybe you have'nt been at conventions before, but there are times when the delegates can go on and on all night. I know, I was precinct chair ward 3-9 and a delegate..

(VF) This is the problem now, We have many other people telling "US" who to vote for and they don't live here. Like we don't have a brain or reasoning for our own selves. I don't understand this logic.

(JP): First of all, there's a big difference between voicing your support and "telling "US" who to vote for", but if you really believe this, then I would question why you would support Olin or any endorsed candidate. The majority of those people making the phone calls, and door knocking and giving endorsements for endorsed candidates do not
live there.

(VF) You are right, but they are not telling me anything, they are asking me,A big difference, they don't go above and beyond trying to get me to sway my vote. What they do say is keep me in mind.....and when I tell them who I am voting for they don't get upset and spread nasty little things about the my choice, the response is still the same, keep me in mind and thank you..

(JP)We'll see in the end who walks out of it, but if Olin does end up representing the 3rd ward, I hope he can do a better job of telling Black people apart than his supporters are.

(VF) Okay, let's see.... I'm black and I also confused you with Keith, not to you but to others. Are you trying to say that people who support Olin are not black?? I beg to differ with you. There are plenty african
american here in the Third ward, who is jumping at the chance to "VOTE" for Olin. Why? Because they know him and trust him. I whole heartily agree with you when you said "Races should be fought and won honorably, especially if you're going to claim to have the best candidate." When I see or hear innuendoes coming from candidates supporters then that let's me know one thing.....that Neighbors Want "MOORE" in the Third Ward.

As far as you other post, I don't think I am going to respond. I don't feel the need to protect my image, This is not about me and why I wanted to run, I said why at the convention.
