Steve,

It's not the DFL that thinks it has exclusive use of the term labor endorsed - it's LABOR Unions that have that exclusive use. The DFL only has exclusive use of 'DFL' .  If you look beyond the Minneapolis borders you will see that Labor Unions do endorse Republicans sometimes. Unions are out there for thier members, if you are a candidate that is supportive of their issues and concerns (and have somehow demostrated this - not just given lip service), you will get their support and endorsement.

Reality is, the Republican agenda is not very supportive of organized labor- never has been so, GOPers rarely get their endorsements. Instead of the Republicans trying to work a true labor platform in their agenda, they work to weaken labor unions and try to discredit them by painting them as politically bias instead of what they really are, policy bias. I guess the latter is easier.

The Republican Party agenda is corporate friendly. The Democratic Farmer-Labor Party agenda has an overt committment to the workers/laborers. Therefore, it makes sense that organizations that bargain and represent the workers (steelworkers, public employess, carpenters, printers, painters, electrical workers, autoworkers, teachers, etc) would support candidates that belong to a Party that has shown a committment to their issues. It's just like the Republicans and the Chamber of Commerces across this state.

I am sure their are a lot of union members that vote Republican, some of them are active in the Republican Party, and some of those activists started the Republican Labor Federation. Which again leads to the point of this whole thread, that federation is not a union or bargaining unit. It's a republican political club dedicated to weakening unions.

I would like to echo Connie's note here, and state that I find it the height
of arrogance that the DFL thinks it has the exclusive use of the term "Labor

Republican point of view.
