I am utterly confused about all this stuff regarding the community schools
offering. I understand that the community schools are entirely self
sustaining and does not rely on funds from MPS. All classes there are for
those community personnel that want to expand their knowledge of those
respective issues and discussions. Anybody can offer to teach a class and
if enrollment is sufficient to subsidize the teacher, the class is offered.
Occasionally the director of that community school may decide to subsidize
the class if the board of the community school or if he feels it is
worthwhile to the community.

In a previous list VH stated that the cost of education in MPS was 17,xxx
per child. I have seen figures for 11,xxx and other numbers. In MPS, we
need to look at each school and see what the cost per child is. It varies
all over the place from around 5-6xxx up to 11,xxx, depending on where the
child is coming from and income of the family. Averages are meaningless in
MPS because of the great diversity of Minneapolis. Please don't make
comparisons on incomplete or partial information. We need to look at the
big picture for any comparisons. How many high schools or elementary
schools are in each district. If a district has only 1-2 elementary schools
and just 1 high school how can you compare it to MPS or SP which has
numerous high school with diverse populations.
