I have a few questions for our esteemed council members. 1.Whereas, a war in Iraq would cost an estimated $100 billion; Where are we getting this number from?? The DOD? I give it a big we don't know that.
2.Whereas, a war would disproportionately affect minorities, and according to the 2000 census, minorities constitute 35% of residents of the City of Minneapolis; Ok, I'm assuming that we are still working off the 100 billion deal. 35 percent isn't a majority, so what do the minorities have to do with the cost of the war?? 3.Whereas, These costs, both economic and social, would affect every household in the City of Minneapolis, making the war a local issue; I'll give them this one. War is always a local issue. I also worry about the costs if we don't show our force at this point. 4. Whereas, real homeland security requires pursuing basic needs of the American people such as health care for all, guaranteed education and job training, adequate and affordable housing, transportation systems that do not poison the atmosphere or depend on foreign oil, and a decentralized, sustainable, non-polluting energy system that is not vulnerable to terrorist attack; They missed a serious basic need that is in the US constitution. LIBERTY. FREEDOM. We have the oil in alaska, and it now looks like the council members are getting ready to ban car or bus travel in Minneapolis proper. And we want to make college free for everyone. 5.Whereas, a United States war against Iraq would demonstrate blatant disregard for international law What law are we breaking now? If the UN gives us the go ahead, we have the right to destroy the weapons, and the manufacturing plants. What else does Saddam have to do to get the liberals to justify getting rid of him? I put this guy right up there with Hitler. We are trying to free Iraq, and export capitalism over there. This guy is a dictator, and kills all of his enemies, domestic and foreign. He took over a country people!!! We haven't even fired a shot yet, just amassing troops in the region, and all the anti-war protests start. Where were you all when we invaded KOSOVO??? We are forcing Saddams's hand by using the military, and trying many non-violent ways to try to resolve this action. Using the military will be the last resort. He is a crazy dictator, and the UN has written resolutions to demand that Iraq not build weapons. He has violated these resoultions, time and time again. The inspectors have been thwarted in the past, and Saddam is still doing it now. What else do we have to do to prove the world that this guy needs to go, and Iraq needs to be freed??
