I want to register my support for the city of Minneapolis City Council to pass a resolution in opposition to the war in Iraq.

I believe that our current national government is in violation of our Constitution, and that our democracy is being subverted at a national level.  Local expression of democracy is an important form of political protest under these circumstances.

I believe that it is crucial for us as american citizens to face the fact that fascists -- and I do not use the term loosely or lightly -- now control our national government.

The United States of America is now engaged in a new holocaust, killing people in the Middle East and around the world in order to achieve "full spectrum dominance" by brute force.

Hitler's Germany was a powerful nation as is ours.  Afghanistan and Iraq are both weak and starving nations, long-time pawns in what Donald Rumsfeld has called "The Grand Chess Board" of geopolitical power.  We citizens of the United States of america are much like the common people of Hitler's Germany --ignorant of, and often preferring not to know, the brutality which is the foundation of our current supposed comfort and security.

We may rest assured that the city of Minneapolis -- like the rest of our nation --is made more likely to be struck by terrorists as long as US aggression continues.  We will find prosperity and peace only as we demand political and economic democracy at home and abroad.

The city of Minneapolis and the metro area have long been strongly dependant upon the war industry. The spirit of this city and of this region have long been corrupted by this presence, as we have churned out -- and still create -- unspeakable and inhumane munitions, which have been used by us and sold by us to terrorists and cruel regimes around the world.  I believe this to be a key reason that our city is unable to speak against unjust war.

We have also been corrupted by the perversion of basic American ideals.  We have come to believe that "liberty" means "irresponsibility" and "boundless self-indulgence."  We also believe that "the pursuit of happiness" means "absolute and infinite entitlement to whatever resources I require for my comfort, regardless my effect on others."   We have been taught that endless consumption is the American Dream, even though this version of the American Dream creates nothing more than a hellish compulsion to consume everything and everyone on the planet.

Recall that GWB's grandfather, Prescott, and his business partner had their assets siezed in 1942 for aiding and abbetting the enemy -- Adolf Hitler.  Recall, too, that many prominent american business people (including members of the Ford family) openly admired Mussolini and Hitler.

Recall that GWB's father, while in the CIA and in office, openly supported such people as Noriega, Saddham Hussien, binLaden, and the Taliban in Afghanistan. These horrific regimes and terrorists were  -like many, many others -- set up by powerful people in our government and business world in order to control resources in various parts of the world.

Recall, too, that Reagan and Bush supported the Aparthied Regime in south Africa -- heirs of the same government elite that had also supported the fascists during WWII.

Our current "president" was not elected, but selected by a court packed with cronies of  the corporatist elite who were more concerned with how the election might affect thier retirement plans than with democracy or the constitution.

Our current leader is a corporatist -- or fascist -- placed in power to bring unending war for global domination.  Our constitution and the very democratic process is being dismantled before our eyes, while our foreign policy has been transformed into a military policy bent on killing hundereds of thousands of civilians -- even the elderly and frail and children -- in order to dominate global resources.

This is no ordinary time, fellow citizens.  This is a time into which we did not choose to be born. We can only choose how to respond.  Will we stand by and watch this global genocide intensify, or will we take a stand for peace and justice and democracy whenever and wherever we can?

We need that resolution against the war on Iraq.  Even now, the Bush administration is expanding and intensifying the bombing missions in Iraq. The war is on, but we still need to take a stand.

Pass that resolution, city council, and sign it, Mr. Mayor!
