Any journalist of integrity would never steal from a source without identifying
it and the author of the piece. The discussions on this forum are very
engaging and perhaps the most in-tune with the issues that affect our city and
opinions on those issues.

As a pseudo-journalist (volunteer editor of the Lyndale neighborhood paper) I
have shared some of the letters on this site... but only after writing to the
authors to specifically ask permission first.

FYI: Ideas cannot be copyrighted.

As a radio talk show host, as a matter of integrity, I never quote a source
without identifying it and its author, though I don't often ask for permission
first unless the source is copyrighted. I might refer to a copyrighted piece
and comment on it, but to read the work as though it were my own would be
infringement.

I am not sure if, legally speaking, a paper is required to state a source
unless the material being "lifted" is copyrighted, but it makes me cringe to
think any paid journalist or professional publication would not credit a source!

For a mere $99 I believe the owner of this list could copyright the site, and
all material on it would then be protected, which would legally force any
papers to ask permission and terms before "reprinting" forum items. Check out
the http://www.benedict.com/ for the quick & dirty details.
