Congratulations to Don Samuels on his homegrown victory. I wish for him the wisdom and patience to bring all stakeholders to the table of 3rd Ward prosperity. I hope his vantage point at the West-end of his Ward will allow him insight in unraveling the 'Gordian knot' of redevelopment of the "Avenue with the most potential", West Broadway. The vibrancy of the Northwest Quadrant of our City, and beyond, awaits.
Keith Reitman NearNorth And from The Mpls. Forum Archive I repost my preprimary post; [Mpls] Third Ward politics and endorsements/ (Wo)Man Vs Machine [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Dec 8 16:48:00 2002 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -- Keith says; Three weeks is two weeks (because of the holiday) until Primary Day, Dec. 30. By DEC 31, we will know which two people will contend for 3rd Ward CM. It is essential that the 3rd Ward, and the NorthSide, has honest and real representation. The cast of candidates has quickly grown beyond the boundaries of the actual 3rd Ward. It has grown beyond those on record as showing any concern or knowledge for the challenges and aspirations of this Ward. Clearly, It has grown beyond those that have demonstrated a commitment to this Ward. I perceive a carpetbagger phenomena to see who can best work The Machine. Confusion about dates, times, deadlines, rules, etc., in this bizarre interim election is compounded by angst surrounding the authority figure who resigned after his criminal conviction. Also pending is the Ward Redistricting Lawsuit:----------------------------------- Green Vs Gerrymandering Machine. Within this miasma of fear and loathing, opportunism and apathy, confusion and calendar conflicts; I perceive the greatest challenge to honest representation of the Ward to be the DFL Machine. RT mentioned his observation of DFL power insiders easily picking, and supporting, their chosen ones before even hearing from other legitimate candidates. Now that is efficiency; the DFL Train, 'on time', as usual. And not unlike our future LRT; there were few riders. Rev up the Machine, and you can grease the skids. All the juice that promotion requires; the Machine will pump. Quick, fast and in a hurry. Who's face is on the DFL candidate lit, and what is his(her) positions; who cares? Certainly not a Machine! My crystal ball says, "This shall not be an election between two homegrown candidates on election day. At best this will be a race between an honest and vetted voice from the community ... and a Machine. Or, it will not even be that. May the best (wo)man win.
