Dyna Sluyter begins:
Congratulations Don, you got lucky in last nights
electoral
lottery. In the lowest turnout for a 3rd ward final
round in memory
you managed a 140 vote "victory". In fact, if I
remember correctly
the loser of the last election got more votes than you
did, and last
nights turnout barely bettered the primary's.
TN:
And so it begins. We're not going to give him a
chance and see how he does becuase he didn't use a
union printer, the same thing you said to smear Shane
Price in 2001 when you supported Joe Biernat. I
agree that the low voter turnout is pathetic, but
Don's voters were passionate enough to brave a
snowstorm to vote. I think that really says
something.
Dyna Continues:
Don, throughout the campaign you reminded us of your
accomplishments in the Jordan neighborhood, and how
you would do the
same for the rest of the ward if elected. Well, during
the last few
days campaigning I visited your Jordan neighborhood
several times. I
noted that the drug dealers were still there, and you
yourself told
of a shootout between dealers and police in Jordan a
few days ago.
TN:
Here's the Nixonesque "tough on crime stuff again"
Dyan, why not just talk about how the "silent majority
is SOO AFRAID!! it would at least seem more
interesting.
Dyna goes on to use the Limbaugh trick of casting
doubt on the winners integrity:
(DS)
Don, I know you're a man of your word, and I fully
expect you'll
attempt to remake the whole 3rd ward in the image of
your beloved
Jordan- poverty, crime, and all.
TN:
So Dyna,
How do you feel now about your beloved police
department with the latest news of Officer Olson's
drunken brawl with a motorist, and you denied that it
could be proved that there are problems with the MPD.
There's one new story per week and it's not getting
any better and I suspect it won't until policy changes
happen at the state level. The city council is really
getting nowhere with this.
Dyna:
About now one of your cult will hit the reply button
to
demand how such further economic catastrophe can
afflict the 3rd
ward. Well Don, remember those union folks you
disrespected? We're
the folks who built the Northside, who bring home the
paychecks that
buy the houses and keep those small businesses you
love so much in
business. And I bet you can't wait for the chance to
get even with us
Of course Don, you've only lived in the 3rd ward on
the
Northside for a couple years, seeing only our recovery
thanks to the
Clinton economic boom. In fact, you don't even live in
the new 3rd
ward. So if the legislature resolves the inequities in
representation
forced by Minneapolis 1990 based ward boundaries you
have but a few
months to remake the third ward to your liking.
Failing that you have
two years and change. Then you'll have to carpetbag
your way over to
at least Hawthorne and face an angry citizenry in an
early november
election with snowstorms unlikely.
Geez Dyna:
I don't know how just a rabid loyal Democrat like you
can sound so much like Rush Limbaugh. the smears, the
exaggerations the insults. I know it's a strong union
theme but your beloved police federation (there's
nothing wrong with them, there just the police offiers
union right?) supported Pawlenty. Are you sure you're
in the right party?
Dyna:
I thought About now another of you're cult will say
I need to get over
it. I've spent a day trying to stomach your "victory",
and the
thought of an anti union Council Member
misrepresenting the 3rd ward
still makes me ill. My Farmer-Laborite grandfather
didn't forget the
Teamster strike of 1934, thank goddess, for he taught
me a bit of
that history that was censored from our schoolbooks.
The lessons my
Farmer-Laborite grandparents taught me are the real
authentic
community values.
TN:
If I remember right, the Framer-Labor Governor during
that strike, Floyd b. Olson, got on the radio and
promised to "Make Minneapolis as quiet as a Sunday
School." effectively breaking the strike. So what
does this endorsement really mean.
Dyna:
More recently our beloved Paul Wellstone told us
"Stand Up, Keep Fighting". Don, I'm standing up to run
against you if
you choose to relocate and run again in the 3rd, and
that campaign
fight begins now.
TN:
Dyna, you may get a few more votes than Leslie Davis.
Still, even in Don doesn't run in 2005, I think you
should. It would be really good for you to see how
much of a public beating candidates usually get from
people like yourself. I would enjoy seeing you try to
convince the people you are now insulting to support
your election to the city council. I might even vote
for you. It sure would make those MTN feeds of the
city council entertaining.
She ends paraphrasing Rush's "America Held Hostage"
quote:
"from Hawthorne in the 3rd ward held hostage,"
TN: on to more:
I've also read a few posts about RT's relationship
with the Police Federation. When the Mayor recieved
that endorsement, I was among the first to be very
critical of RT. I still think it was the dead wrong
decision to accept it and I think it prevents him to
this day from supporting policies which will lead to
real reform.
I'm also aware that the Federation and Cheif Olson
have a very tense relationship, and that many rank and
file blame the chief for not being able to thump at
will.
This is only the surface, however. It is under
Olson's watch that police began killing mentally ill
people who had not committed any crimes. Olson is
largely responsible for the implimentation of the
former NY Chief William Bratton's COMSTAT program in
Minneapolis, here refered to as CODEFOR.
Rudy Guilliani, a pro-police Mayor if ever there was
one, fired Bratton and scrapped the program realizing
the constitutional difficulties with it's enforcement.
Why we ended up with New York's garbage when it came
to police policy, I don't know, but if I were one of
the few decent proffesinoal police officers in
Minneapolis, I would be extremely upset with Olson's
leadership and specifically with the CODEFOR policy.
RT was wrong to accept the PF enrdorsement, but he was
absolutely right to try to get rid of Olson. Does
this mean that the Federation is better? Absolutley
not. Delmonico defending all of this stuff in the
news is begining to border on satire, but I suppose
when you've got to let it out---I mean when you've got
to go, you've got to go. (I'm waiting for Delmonico
to use that as a defnese)
