This bill will NOT preempt local ordinances, especially in charter cities
and cities of the first class (Mpls, St. Paul & Duluth).
Correct- the Minneapolis ordinance was in force for 17 years before the state Act was passed. St.Paul now has a similar ordinance and both cities still have them on their books.

 But not only is
Karen correct about the governor's intention,
The governor was a bit vague, saying he wouldn't support curtailing human rights while complaining about some crossdressing teacher. This nay be a hint that he'll support removing the protection for intersex, transgender, and transsexual folks in the law... Then again this governor has already changed his position twice on the Human Rights Act amendment. BTW, The only crossdressing teacher or even student I've heard of was in a state other than ours which did not our human rights protections. So I guess repealing the human rights act won't stop crossdressing.

Don Jorovsky is correct about
the inclination of the Senate to reject the bill. Can't make it. I'm not
even sure it could pass the House.

The repeal would sail through the house. Most of the senate committees oppose it though, so it would most likely make it to the floor as an amendment to another bill. It's questionable if their are enough votes to defeat it. Of course, we'll probably be at war in a week and the legislature does have a few fiscal matters to deal with.

I don't think we have anything to worry about. The Governor has already
said he will not sign any bill reducing the rights of any group of citizens.

This bill was written by the type of anti Minneapolis
republicans who probably lay awake nights thinking up new ways to get
even with the central cities. Little do they realize that their bill
will cause a migration of gays back to the protections of Minneapolis
and St.Paul, where their rights are still protected in law and quite
  beyond repeal.

The questions occurs to me - will this state law supersede or invalidate
city
laws against discrimination? I can't believe these "sleep deprived
republicans" would allow such a large area (Mpls - St. Paul) to escape their
little theocracy. Forgive me if this point has already been addressed; I
still haven't caught up with all my emails.
